I'm thinking of buying a 3d printer soon to experiment with some micro-manufacturing, and I wanted to ask anyone with a bit of experience whether 3d printing fumes are indeed dangerous or not?

This study found that materials used in 3D printing can sometimes emit styrene, which is carcinogenic. Sounds like being in a well-ventilated place is pretty important!

Yeah I think the effect would be limited unless you're taking in a lot of it though. Generally I don't think people are at risk, if you're doing industrial-scale 3d printing it would probably be as harmful as working around most kinds of large machines and chemicals.
